09/29 Books are the Key to a Whole New World
I used to live in a neighborhood where a lot of families lived. Although it was nice having kids around, sometimes they could get rowdy, and even get themselves into trouble. One summer I decided to do something about it and offered to take them to the library and get cards for them. To my horror I found that several either could not read or did not like it. I got them library cards anyway and soon they decided they needed to learn to read well to find out what those pictures meant. That was the beginning of our very own summer reading program and a whole new world for a bunch of curious kids.
