Cholesterol
Higher levels of cholesterol is one of the key risk factors for heart disease. Heart disease is a very common and costly reason for admission to hospital, with the most common problems being ischemic heart disease, angina, heart attacks and complications from them. Cholesterol comes in two types – the good and the bad cholesterol. The bad cholesterol builds up in arteries and either partly or totally blocks arteries. It is this blockage that causes the reduced blood flow to the heart and causes the heart problems. To reduce cholesterol and prevent heart disease, exercise, diet changes and drugs are usually needed.
