Australian Town Takes Stand on Bottled Water

A small town in Australia has voted to ban sales of bottled water. Bundanoon, a rural town, saw a near unanimous decision taken over bottled water. Earlier, the Prime Minister of New South Wales had banned all state departments from using bottled water, explaining it was a waste of natural resources and money. Empty plastic bottles are taking up vital space in landfills, and the production and transport take up a lot of energy, at a time we just can’t accept these causes of climate change. Apparently only two people out of 356 voted against the proposal, and one of those was connected with the bottled water industry. I’m glad someone’s taking a stand against something that is so unregulated, has unproven health benefits, and uses a lot of energy to produce.
