What Did Pirates Really Wear?
My twelve-year-old daughter Sara came to me and told me she was doing a project about pirates but had no idea what they wore. She wanted to create a little model ship, captain, and crew. When we started researching we found that men of that era wore whatever they wanted and my daughter commented that there didn’t seem to be much a dress code. Since she could choose anything from silk to rags, Sara chose to dress her boy doll in Pirate fancy dress and put raggedy things on the crew. She got an “A” in history and that project was the beginning of her career in fashion design.
